About Esri South Africa Bursary – Geoinformation Science Bursary

Esri South Africa invites applications for bursaries for the 2025 academic year. These bursaries are aimed at students pursuing a Diploma in Geoinformation Science and Technology (GIS) at Esri South Africa College, located in Midrand.

Bursary recipients will also have the opportunity to work part-time at the company on various projects. These projects may involve database services, cartography, implementation services, client solutions, educational services, consulting services, or application development. This practical experience ensures that students stay up-to-date with the latest technology and gain essential skills for their careers.

Esri South Africa will award bursaries to five students, providing full coverage of course fees, textbooks, and study materials for the entire duration of the diploma. Please note that accommodation and travel costs will not be covered and must be borne by the student.

Graduates of the program will have the opportunity to:

  • Work at Esri South Africa after completing their diploma.
  • Register as a GISc Technician with the South African Geomatics Council.

Course Overview

During the diploma program, students will learn to:

  • Plan, build, and implement geographical information systems (GIS) and projects.
  • Acquire, edit, and analyze data for GIS projects.
  • Share results, either as hardcopy maps or via the web.

The course includes 36 modules covering both theoretical and practical elements of geo-information science and technology. Learning will be facilitated through a combination of distance learning, virtual practical sessions, and virtual fieldwork.


Eligibility Requirements: Geoinformation Science Bursary

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for this bursary:

  • Matriculated in 2023 or 2024, achieving a 65% to 100% score in Mathematics.
  • Intend to pursue a Diploma in Geoinformation Science and Technology (GIS) at Esri South Africa College in Midrand.
  • Be willing to reside in Gauteng for the full duration of the program.
  • Commit to completing the course in two years.
  • Demonstrate interest in practical experience within the GIS industry.
  • Be hard-working, curious, and open-minded with strong ethical values.
  • Possess problem-solving skills and a positive attitude.
