Engineering bursaries in 2025. The Master Builders Association Western Cape (MBAWC) is offering bursaries for the 2025 academic year to support studies in the Built Environment sector.


Fields of Study – Engineering bursaries in 2025

The bursary is open to students pursuing the following qualifications at tertiary institutions in the Western Cape:

University Degree Studies

  • Civil Engineering (BSc)
  • Construction Studies (BSc)
  • Construction Management (BSc Hons)
  • Quantity Surveying (BSc Hons)
  • Project Management (MSc)
  • Masters studies (subject to motivated application)
  • Other Built Environment-related fields

University of Technology National Diploma (Non-NSFAS focus) Studies

  • Construction (Extended) (Diploma)
  • Construction (Diploma)
  • Construction (Advanced Diploma)
  • Construction Health & Safety (Advanced Diploma)
  • Quantity Surveying (Advanced Diploma)
  • Master of Construction
  • Other Built Environment-related fields

The bursary provides cover for tuition fees only, payable in two installments. The second installment is dependent on satisfactory mid-year academic performance.

Eligibility Requirements – Engineering bursaries in 2025

Applicants must meet these minimum criteria:

  1. South African citizenship is required.
  2. Matric must have been completed at a school within the Western Cape.
  3. Must be enrolled or intending to enroll in one of the Built Environment qualifications listed above for 2025.
  4. Must attend or plan to attend a recognised tertiary institution in the Western Cape province.
  5. Must NOT qualify for NSFAS funding (parental or guardian household income must be between R350,000 and R600,000 annually).
  6. Must NOT qualify for any other bursary fund or SETA/ CETA support.

Preference will be given to:

  • Employees of MBAWC member companies or their family members.
  • Applicants employed by a member company compliant with the BIBC benefit system for at least 24 months uninterrupted.
