All Engineering Bursaries for 2025. These bursaries are available to South African students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are pursuing undergraduate studies in mining and energy-related fields.

About DMRE

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) is currently accepting applications for the 2025 academic year bursaries. These bursaries are available to South African students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are pursuing undergraduate studies in mining and energy-related fields. Priority will be given to female students, students with disabilities, and first-year students.

The DMRE bursaries cover a range of fields within the mining and energy sectors, including the following:

  • Bachelor of Science (Physics and Chemistry)
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
  • Electro-Mechanical Engineering
  • Environmental Health and Management
  • Geology
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Materials Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering (Extractive)
  • Mining Engineering
  • Mining Survey
  • Nuclear Engineering
  • Rock Engineering

Eligibility Criteria – All Engineering Bursaries for 2025

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Be 35 years old or younger.
  • Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
  • Achieve a minimum of Level 6 for Pure Mathematics and Science in Matric.
  • Be studying or intending to study full-time in one of the fields listed above (undergraduate studies only – postgraduate qualifications will not be funded).
  • Be studying or accepted/registered to study at a University or University of Technology in South Africa.
  • Be in financial need.
  • Come from a disadvantaged social background and a rural area.
  • Be unemployed at the time of application.
  • First-year students will be prioritized.
  • Preference will be given to female students and students with disabilities.
