SAAFoST Undergraduate Bursary 2025

The South African Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST) is now inviting applications for its 2025 Undergraduate Bursary. This opportunity is aimed at students pursuing studies within the Food Science and Technology field.

About the Bursary – Food Science and Technology

The SAAFoST Undergraduate Bursary is awarded based on three main criteria:

  • Academic merit
  • Employment equity
  • Demonstrated potential

The bursary provides funding exclusively for tuition fees, as per the tertiary institution’s official statement of account. The maximum bursary value is R40,000 per annum, payable directly to the institution in two instalments. Note that the second instalment will only be disbursed if the student’s first-semester results meet satisfactory standards.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the SAAFoST Undergraduate Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Citizenship: Applicants must be South African citizens or permanent residents who have lived in South Africa for at least three years before applying.
  2. Academic Status: Applicants must:
    • Have completed Matric.
    • Be enrolled full-time in a first undergraduate degree or diploma in the Food Science and Technology field.
    • Be entering their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study in 2025.
    • Be studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.
    • Have been a SAAFoST member for at least 12 months before applying.
  3. Study Completion: Applicants must complete their studies within the prescribed time frame (– three years for a bachelor’s degree, four years for a higher diploma, and up to four years for undergraduate degree studies, including BSc Honours).
  4. Academic Excellence: Preference will be given to students with strong academic performance or potential.
