About BASF Bursary
BASF is pleased to announce that applications are now open for its 2025 academic year bursary program. This initiative is designed to empower Black (African, Coloured, and Indian) female students pursuing studies in the fields of Chemistry, Engineering, and Sciences.
The bursary’s primary goal is to advance the role of women in science across South Africa. Therefore, applications from Black female students with strong academic performance and from financially disadvantaged backgrounds are highly encouraged.

What the Bursary Covers
The BASF bursary offers a comprehensive package to ensure students can focus entirely on their studies. It covers the full cost of tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, and includes a monthly stipend. This financial support ensures recipients can succeed academically without the stress of financial burdens.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the BASF bursary:
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
- Gender: Must be female.
- Race: Must be Black (African, Coloured, or Indian, as defined by BBBEE codes).
- Field of Study: Must be enrolled in Chemistry, Engineering, or Sciences programs.
- Educational Institution: Must be studying at a recognised and accredited University or University of Technology in South Africa.
- Year of Study: Must have completed the 1st year of study and be entering the 2nd year or higher in 2025.
- Financial Need: Must demonstrate financial need and meet NSFAS funding criteria.
- Academic Record: Must have a strong academic record.
- Conduct: Must not have a criminal record in any country.
- Other Funding: Must not be receiving any other bursary, scholarship, or grant (NSFAS funding excluded).
