What the Bursary Covers:

  • Accommodation: Costs for residence or private accommodation.
  • Current Fees: Payment of any current outstanding student fees or debts.

Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify for the Sage Bursary 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • South African Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
  • Previously Disadvantaged Individual (PDI): Must belong to a previously disadvantaged group.
  • Matric Status: Must be currently in Matric or have already completed Matric.
  • Field of Study: Must be studying or intending to study in one of the listed fields in 2025 (from first to final year).
  • Tertiary Institution: Must be enrolled or accepted at a recognised and accredited public tertiary institution in South Africa.
  • Matric Students: Must have achieved at least 75% for Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • University Students: Must have a consistent overall average of 65%.
  • Students with Disabilities: Open to students in any field of study for both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
  • Household Income: Must have a household income between R350 000 and R500 000 per annum. If the household income is less than R350 000 per annum, applicants must have applied for NSFAS funding. If NSFAS funding was not awarded, applicants may still apply for this bursary.

Preference will be given to students with disabilities.

Applicants must submit the following documents when applying online:

  • Clear Photograph: A head and shoulders photograph.
  • South African ID: A certified copy of the applicant’s ID document.
  • Grade 11 and Matric Results: Submit your Grade 11 final results and Matric June results if you are currently in Matric.
  • Matric Certificate: If Matric has already been completed.
  • Full Academic Record: The latest available results, such as June 2024 examination results or progress reports.
  • Household Income Proof: Provide supporting documents such as:
    • Latest payslips if employed
    • Affidavit if unemployed
    • Affidavit stating annual income if self-employed
    • Recent audited financial statement or 3 monthsโ€™ bank statements if the parent or guardian owns a business
    • SASSA letter for applicable grants
  • Death Certificate: If either parent is deceased.
  • Child Support Letter: If parents are divorced or separated, a letter from the court or affidavit confirming child support payments.
  • Proof of Disability: If applicable, provide a medical report or doctor’s note.
