To qualify for the ExcelAtUni bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Citizenship: Be a South African citizen.
- Age: Be under 35 years old.
- Study mode: Be studying full-time toward an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification.
- Current level of study: Be pursuing their current qualification for the first time (applicants repeating any degree, diploma, or honours qualification are not eligible).
- Institutional registration: Be enrolled at a tertiary institution recognised by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). This includes public and private/community colleges and TVET institutions.
- Financial need: Demonstrate a genuine financial need for funding for the 2025 academic year.
