Eligibility Requirements – Scholarship Bursary for UCT Students

To qualify for the Gallagher Foundation Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Citizenship: Be a South African citizen
2. Academic Excellence:
   • Maintain a strong academic record
   • Achieve a minimum overall average of 60%
   • Score highly in all competency areas of the National Benchmark Test
3. Enrollment:
   • Be admitted to the University of Cape Town (UCT) for the 2025 academic year
   • Be entering the first year of a four-year or six-year medical program
4. Financial Need:
   • Come from a financially disadvantaged background and provide proof of financial need
   • Meet NSFAS financial criteria and apply for NSFAS funding
   • Not receive other scholarship funding (except for merit-based awards)
5. Ethical Values and Leadership:
   • Demonstrate ethical values aligned with the Gallagher Foundation’s vision, including:
     • Belief in non-violent progress
     • Commitment to making a difference in South Africa
     • Strong leadership potential through special projects, awards, extracurricular activities, or service work
