Department of Water and Sanitation invites South African students to apply for Bursary Programme 2025 academic year.

Undergraduate Studies:

  • Civil Engineering (BSc/BEng)
  • Civil Engineering (National Diploma/BEng Tech)
  • Electrical Engineering (BSc/BEng)
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) (National Diploma/BEng Tech)
  • Environmental Management (BSc)
  • Mechanical Engineering (BSc/BEng)
  • Mechanical Engineering (National Diploma/BEng Tech)
  • Water Project Management (BSc)
  • Water Care (National Diploma)

Postgraduate Studies:

  • Environmental and Water Sciences (BSc Hons)
  • Geohydrology (BSc Hons)
  • Hydrology (BSc Hons)

Bursary Coverage

The bursary covers:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Book allowance
  • Stationery allowance
  • Accommodation
  • Food (as per university guidance)
  • Monthly stipend

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens
  • Have completed or be currently in Matric
  • Intend to study full-time in one of the specified fields
  • Be entering their first year of study in 2025 (undergraduate or Honours)
  • Study at one of the listed public institutions
  • Have a strong academic record
  • Be in financial need
  • Not be receiving any other funding (e.g., NSFAS, bursaries, scholarships)
  • Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged students from poor and rural communities
  • Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply

Required Documents

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copies of Grade 11 final results and latest Matric results (if currently in Matric)
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate (if completed Matric)
  • Proof of application/provisional acceptance letter/firm offer from university (first-time students)
  • Academic record of undergraduate and proof of acceptance (Honours students)
  • Parents/guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, SASSA grant letter)

How to apply

  1. Download and complete the DWS Bursary Application Form 2025.
  2. Submit the completed form and required documents via email to bursaries@dws.gov.za with “DWS Bursary Application 2025” in the subject line.

Deadline

  • Applications must be submitted by 30 September 2024.
