Google images

After 4 years of anticipation, the biggest music awards show in Africa is back and this time hosted in Uganda, in Kampala which is the capital city. These will be the first MAMAs to be hosted and streamed virtually in history due to the world pandemic, this will be the first time Uganda, ‘The Pearl’ of Africa will be hosting the event as well. Talk about a remarkable forging of history! The awards will be on the 20th of February 2021 (20/02/21) a date not to miss!

Minister of Tourism, Godfrey Kiwanda went to say that “This is Africa’s best moment as we showcase the Pearl of Africa. Welcome MAMAs to the Pearl of Africa! Welcome MAMAs to Uganda”

The MTV Africa Music Awards (also known as the MAMAs) were established in 2008 by MTV networks (now ViacomCBS Networks Africa) to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa music industry. The 2008 and 2010 events took place in the land of Nigeria in the city of Abuja and Lagos respectively.
In 2009, the event was then hosted again in Nairobi, Kenya after these 3 events, however, the awards came to a pause then returning to be hosted in Mzansi- Durban, in 2014 and again in Johannesburg- the year of 2016.

“Everyone knows that the Pearl of Africa (Uganda) is one of the most beautiful, most amazing parts of Africa…and the people, the vibe, the music in Uganda…there is no other place that is well and ready to host the MAMAs in 2021,”

These positive words by Monde Twala- a senior vice president of ViacomCBS Networks Africa, truly highlight the significant impact this awards show will bring in uniting African cultures once again; through the melodies and rhythms of the African sounds. We look forward to witnessing the exuberant artists from all over the continent gelling as one, you do not wanna miss this one Mzansi.

Rhythm City is coming to an end

The popular television soapie, Rhythm City, is set to end next year and a new local show is taking over its spot. It’s last episode will air in July 2021.

Mzansi was taken aback and crashed by the confirmation that indeed the 13 year old soapie is coming to a sudden conclusion

The Channel, E.tv, where the show airs announced on Friday in a statement. According to Times live the states the decision to pull the popular soapie out of the channel was influenced by a  business strategy which included reviewing the show’s on air-life cycle.

The show started airing on the 9 of July 2007. Rhythm City revolves around the struggles of surviving Jozi Johannesburg. It all starts in a two roomed home and the experiences follow two empires in the entertainment space; The Generos and the Ndlovus and how their heirs want to dominate the scene. Our characters try to navigate around the affluent and aspirational lifestyles of the city. Past rivalries, industry conflicts, infidelity, backstabbing, sexuality, love, and pain, good and evil are the order of the day as the story plays out moving from between the township to the suburbs.

“Rhythm City has secured its place in e. tv’s history books, and a legacy mark has been made. We want to extend our gratitude to the entire production staff, crew  and cast for their incomparable craft,” said Marlon Davids, e.tv managing director.

It managed to pull a hefty number of viewers over the years. At its peaked it attracted over five million adult viewers this year and has has been among the top-10 most watched soapies in the country.

Throughout the most recent couple of months the show additionally lost a portion of its long-standing leads, including Jamie Bartlett (David Genaro), Samkelo Ndlovu (Lerato) and Amo Chidi (Rene)

The decision to end the sure was surely not easy information for the Rhythm city cast and crew to digest.

Actress Mapula Mafole, who plays Mapula on the soapie, seemed very unhappy, while Thishiwe Ziqubu said a prayer for the cast and crew to find other jobs.

Fans devastated by the news
