Gqom star Biggie dieS After suffering from a chronic heart condition

Gqom musician Njabulo “Biggie” Zondi has died from a chronic heart condition.

Zondi’s record label Charlie Communications confirmed his death to Sowetan in a statement on Wednesday morning.

According to Charlie Communications director, Ngcebo Mdima, Zondi died last night at 7.30pm at King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban. He was only 29 years old.

“He has been in and out of the hospital due to this chronic disease, sadly, this lead to congestive heart failure which caused the honorific musician to constantly struggle with breathing,” Mdima said.

“We hereby affirm that late Njabulo ‘Biggie’ Zondi did not die from any Covid-19 related sickness or kidney failure.

“His heart couldn’t circulate or pump the blood (systolic) or fill (diastolic) adequately, which challenged his breathing abilities.

He was then admitted into the ICU under life support machines, as we were hoping for a positive response from doctors that he would recover speedily, it was unfortunate that we received the devastating news of his passing.

Zondi was known for his collaborations with DJ Lag, DJ Websta, Nu Era and Julluca. He provided vocals for gqom tracks such as Obaleka, Jika, Iyakhuluma, Bakhuzeni and Vumani Boh.

n February, Zondi released his debut solo single Ilokishi lami.

From the NoChill team we would love to pay our respects. May his soul rest in piece.

It’s been almost four months since Thando Thabethe resigned at 5FM, but she has refused to rule out the possibility of returning back to radio. The star left the station due to contractual issues, and recently told Drum  that she had to leave for her own peace of mind.

“It’s unfortunate how things turned out. I needed to do it for myself, and I am very proud of myself for it.”

Thando said her first love is acting, and that will be the focus of her career going forward. However, she won’t rule out the possibility of her returning to the airwaves, but maybe in a different form.

Fans have been calling for Thando to return to the airwaves, and she has constantly thanked fans for their support.

“I think radio is changing with the times. Podcasts seem to be the way forward. They afford listeners what Netflix offers viewers, namely on-demand consumption of content. Would I go back to radio? Never say never.”

Thando took to Twitter in April to open up about her 5FM exit, claiming  she had tried to negotiate a pay increase and some leave in her contract renewal, but later heard  her popular afternoon drive-time show would no longer be aired as it allegedly did not fit into the SABC’s two to five-year plan.

Thando and the SABC allegedly had several back and forths before she decided to resign.

AKA & Cassper are to battle it out on the ring

According to the recent episodne of YouTube podcast PopCast, which features Scoop Makhathini, Ms Cosmo, PH and DJ Speedsta, Cassper confirmed that the boxing match will see the light of day on his Saturday Metro FM show.

This is what the social media streets have been waiting for and are are still unstable about, no one is quite sure who will win just yet. After fans learnt that they may finally get the boxing match they’ve been SBWL’ing since AKA toyed with the idea on TL. Cassper finally agreed to entertain the match and Mzansi can’t wait.

“We need to meet in the ring. That’s all I want. It’s too late for apologies,” Cass said on Speedsta’s show.

Now, there aren’t many details available currently except to say that the match is allegedly set for some time later this year.

But, of course, this has not stopped the pair from preparing the fans from placing their bets and psyching themselves up for the big fight.

Cassper took to Twitter to post the announcement and share his excitement, totally singing a different tune to the one he was shouting at the top of his lungs just a few weeks back when AKA hurled insults at his entire family while trying to taunt him into accepting the fight.

The rapper is getting himself some mental training.

“Boxing is such an amazing form of art. The history and the stories are inspiring. True championship shit!!! I have so much respect for people who do this for a living. I’ve been introduced to a new world and I’m inspired,” he said.

AKA had previously said that he and Cass stood to make millions (each) from the fight and he’s finally got what he wanted.

So what is he doing now that the match is at that “on your marks, get ready …” stage?

AKA’s BEEN mentally ready for the fight, so he’s getting his physical training in!

Who are you putting your money on?

Anele Mdoda returns to judge Miss SA 2020

Media personality Anele Mdoda to be part of the judging panel for Miss SA.

Tv and radio personal Anele Mdoda is said to be returning on the judging panel for the 2020 Miss SA pageant.

Mdoda was part of the panel that crowned Zozibini Tunzi last year before she was named Miss Universe.

“It’s never about the judges; it is the belief the young women have in themselves. We just serve as a springboard. The crown finds the contestant while she is looking for it,” Mdoda said

“I have always looked for authenticity and a strong sense of self. You can see it almost immediately when you meet a contestant.

“Zozi walked in and shook all our hands, with a little dip as she greeted, manners from home. It’s who she is – solid and authentic – and she remained like that from the beginning and through all the rounds until she took both crowns.

“When you are authentic, you do not need to remember who you said you are.”

This years Miss SA received more than 2,500 entries for the pageant – a record number for the organisation.

The judges will select 35 contestants in the next coming days to participate in the virtual interview rounds. After that the top 16 will be announced.

“We are not looking for the next Zozi. We want the first you. Be true to yourself,” Mdoda said.

“During the judging processes, I have seen a lot of entrants going through all the news channels and reading every newspaper because there is fear that we as judges want to catch them out. We don’t.”

CEO of the Miss South Africa Organisation Stephanie Weil added: “We are delighted with the number of entries received and the excitement surrounding this year’s pageant, which is reflected in those record numbers. We are also thrilled with the quality of entrants and believe that the judges are going to have a hard time choosing 16 semifinalists.”

The 94.7 presenter will be joined by former Miss SA winners Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala (2010), Liesl Laurie (2015) and Adè van Heerden (2017).

DJ Maphorisa shuts down all hopes of collaborating with Prince Kaybee

DJ Maphorisa has shut down all suggestions of ever collaborating with artist Prince Kaybee, after fans mentioned it wouldn’t be a bad collab — apparently so because he believes Kaybee is not in his league.

The request for a collaboration was made by tweeps who reasoned that the two talented musicians needed to put their differences aside for a greater cause, but according to DJ Phori, Kaybee needs to make about 40 hit songs before Maphorisa can even consider working with him.

“He needs to make at least 40 hits, he is a small boy,” Phori said.

Maphorisa made it clear that he wasn’t about that life.
