Who is eligible for a bursary?
Our bursary scheme is open to:
- School leavers or university students aged between 18 and 25 years old.
- Students studying or intending to study full-time at any accredited South African university in the following fields:
- Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechatronics, Forestry and Wood Science.
- National Diploma in Pulp and Paper, or Forestry.

Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens.
- Have achieved an average of 70% in Mathematics (excluding Maths Literacy), 70–80% in Physical Science, and 60% in English.
- Meet the qualifying points for university entrance or have confirmation of acceptance.
Current university students must provide their most recent academic results, with preference given to those maintaining an average of 75% and above in Mathematics and Physical Science.
When to apply for a bursary at Sappi
The bursary application period is open from 1st April to 30th September annually. The recruitment cycle typically occurs between October and November.
